One of the most popular trivia questions in the now famous board game is – is pumpkin a fruit or a vegetable?  The Pumpkin, a member of the squash family, originates from the Greek word meaning “large melon.”  Yes, a pumpkin is actually a fruit and not a vegetable.

No one knows the exact origin of the pumpkin; however, it is thought to have originated in Northern American because the first pumpkin seeds were discovered in Mexico several thousand years BC.

Today, pumpkins are seen throughout the world as a traditional piece at Halloween and used during the summer and autumn months for cooking.  Pies, soups and roasted seeds are among the popular uses for pumpkins.  While growing in popularity, pumpkin’s roots date back thousands of years and cover a wide span of territory.
