Biotin, also known as vitamin B7 or Vitamin H is known for its role in helping the body convert carbs into fuel. This benefit has led to much speculation about biotin’s affect on weight loss.
There is some anecdotal evidence that biotin does help you lose weight, but there has not been enough research done to definitively say that biotin does help you lose weight.
The theory that biotin helps you lose weight originates form the fact that it helps increase the body’s metabolism and helps you process food for energy much more efficiently.
Another theory speaking to biotin’s effectiveness on weight loss is that it helps keep blood sugar levels at stable levels. High blood sugar levels makes it difficult for the body to burn fat. Weight loss occurs best when blood sugar levels are at stable levels.
Biotin is not produced naturally in the body so it needs to be consumed from outside sources. The body also does not store biotin so it needs to be part of your regular diet. Biotin can be found in a variety of foods including egg yolks, liver, oatmeal, buts, beef, bananas, rice and several vegetables.
Most people get enough biotin in their diets, but some people who want to lose weight choose to take a biotin supplement that typically comes in pill form.
