Many people, from those watching their weight to diabetes sufferers, wonder how many carbs are in a banana. Bananas are a healthy snack because they are virtually fat free, sweet and satisfying. However, bananas do contain carbohydrates.
Bananas are slightly higher in carbs than most other fruits. The carb count does vary depending on the size of the banana. It may be fairly obvious that the large the banana the more carbs it will contain.
In one large banana that measures approximately 8 to 9 inches there are are just over 30 grams of carbohydrates. In one medium size banana which is 7 inches to just under 8 inches there are approximately 26 carbs. In one small banana measuring about 6 inches there are approximately 23 grams of carbs.
As you may imagine, the calorie content varies as well depending on the size of the banana. Most weight loss enthusiasts who are concerned about the number of carbs they take in are also concerned about the number of calories found in the foods they eat.
If you are concerned about the number of carbs you eat, you may want to considered looking for a small sized banana at the store. Most grocery stores offer a variety of sizes and the smaller the banana the lower the number of carbs. If you only have large bananas, try cutting them in half and eating a smaller portion at a time.
