How Many Calories In A Chicken Leg?

The Drumstick is one of the most popular pieces of chicken to eat. Ever wondered how many calories are in a chicken leg and which piece is the best to eat?

One regular sized chicken leg contains about 85 calories.  It is one of the leanest parts of the chicken to eat and contains the lowest number of calories.  The breast, back and thigh pieces contain nearly twice the calories of the chicken leg, so if you are trying to cut back on your calories at the company picnic, the chicken leg may be a wise choice.

Calories are higher if the chicken leg has not been skinned.  In fact, a regular sized chicken leg with skin contains about 175 calories.  That is almost twice as many calories as a skinless chicken leg.

The chicken leg is not that meaty, therefore you are not going to get a lot of calories.  The size of the leg should be taken into consideration because the larger the leg the more calories there are.  A super-sized drumstick could reach 200 calories and if it contains the skin, you can add another 100 calories at least.

If you are trying to cut back on your calorie intake, it is important to limit your fried chicken consumption.  A grilled chicken leg that has had the skin removed is one of the best pieces to eat.
